School Growth & Improvement

John Pittard Elementary

John Pittard Parents:

Each year, as a requirement of both federal and state law, the Tennessee Department of Education examines schools’ performance across several different indicators to provide an overall look at how schools are serving the needs of all students.

Schools designated in need of improvement may receive one of the following designations:

  • Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) or Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI); also known as Focus Schools
  • Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI); also known as Priority Schools

John Pittard Elementary was identified for targeted support and improvement (TSI) during the 2025-2026 school year based on data from 2024-2025 for their Economically Disadvantaged and African American student groups.

These student groups were identified for this designation due to their accountability score falling in bottom 5% of schools in the state. The metrics used to determine this designation were achievement, growth, chronic absenteeism, and English Language Proficiency Assessment results.

Our school is working hard with the district and the Tennessee Department of Education to increase student performance. We encourage you to help by participating in the development and implementation of our school improvement plan.

At John Pittard, we take this designation seriously and we believe all students can learn and succeed in a safe, positive, and supportive environment. Although the score was based only on two student groups, we are extremely focused on improvement for all students. We know our students are incredible and our teachers are excellent.
